    Spanish 1916 Short Rifle

Mentioned this up in the General Milsurps forum. This is a Samco imported rifle that went through the auction process and is now being sold for $149 at gun shows. Dealer appears to be Old Western Scrounger or someone closely associated with him as that's where my receipt is from. This is in original 7mm and as you can see is not in bad shape. This was not the nicest rifle they had out but I wanted a crest and crests were only on about a quarter of them. They also have 308 or NATO configurations if you are so inclined for $169. I was told they purchased 8000 of them. The finish is thin throughout. Almost no rust on it and what was there was very light. I did nothing to this other than wipe it down with linseed oilicon and get the old crud off it.

Rather nicer than most I've seen.

    Thanks for the heads up.

But I think I've had my 7mm Mauser find of the year already!

The 7.62mm version is to be avoided. They loaded up a special light round for the rifle and it runs well with that load. Standard 7.62mm ammo will slowly stretch the receiver.

I don't know if I got extremely lucky or what but I ordered a Spanish sling from Sarco and I got an unissued one. Buckle is tarnished heavily and leather is a little dry but it's probably a brand new 60 year old sling.

I was just looking at those. How long are they?

I already have it on the rifle so measurement isn't exact but I'd say it is 46" from center of buckle to end of leather. Mounted you will lose 2" for the upper attachment and 2" for the buckle end so 42" net. I always tighten them as snug as they will go so they aren't flapping all around. I also got one of the Rhodesian rifle bags on a whim. Kind of neat, not sure they are original but they aren't expensive either. Soft padding on inside but won't take a lot of abuse. Fairly light construction.
