07' bayonets & others (pic heavy)

Had my 07's out for their 6 monthly ballistol so thought I would share with the forum I am only a modest collector as funds will allow like allot of us.
I guess this lot and the others shown have been 30 year odyessy at fairs, mates and flea bay.
In no particular order and from memory they are, '16 5MD Lithgowicon with Lithgow 5 MD scabb, '16 James Arthur Chapman, '16 Chapman, '18 Vickers, '17 Wilkinson Pall Mall, '21 Lithgow with '21 Lithgow Dbl stich scabb, '18 Mole, '45 O A (Orange Arsenal) (Lithgow)

My last '07 acquisition will be a '17 Sanderson/Neubold with the Mil fair not to far away in Sept I am hoping to acquire one and other stuff.

    K- 98 is a 1939 Richard A Herder Ser-852 with matching Scabb Ser-852, a Sykes Fairbairn and 1888 and 1903 Wilkinson

All very nice. Makes me wish I'd kept all mine when the rifles went so long ago. I certainly didn't get the money for them I should have...

That is the thing now BAR prices have gone beyond reasonable 15 years ago I missed on a hooked quilion at $175.00/AU now they are $900 - 1,000, guess we are a bit the same stuff I have paid allot for when I came to sell it was lucky to get half of what I paid. I just buy what I can afford now though at times I fall foul of the Minister for War & Finance by overspending my poor wife fails to comprehend the grab it while you can for particular item like a Leopard prac round!!

I had a hook in my mass, a cut down Owen, a correct Owen, a double seam scabbard, all the India patterns...plus the standard stuff. My #4 bayonets included a red handle #9, #7, all patterns of spike including the cruciform in mint shape...all had correct scabbards as well. Both collections accompanied their rifle out the door. Got about $600 CDN for each rifle and set at the time. That would have been back about '98.
    Regards, Jim

Wished I had your weather Cinders, but apart from being about the furthest from each other we were up to the same thing today, I had the pleasure of no interruptions so dug them out for a oil etc, and to sort some out for sale, one of the Hookies is going or is reserved.... and a few of the unit marked ones, below the 1907's, 1903's, 1888's etc including two Owen SMG ones, the third is some odd balls and some unfinished SLR blades, these I got in a deal as I wanted a blade to build a knife but was cheaper to buy five...

Great collection Geoff, some superb bayonets there! Most of my collection got thinned out a few years back, only examples related to my FAC rifles remain ... A shooting friend of mine asked me last week what my collecting criteria was, after some thought I said, if I can't fit a bayonet on it, it's probably not for me..

A nice little collection of bayonets you have there, cinders. I wouldn't mind a few of your 1907 examples myself such as the Vickers one which I believe are fairly rare. Another item which is also not common is your K98icon bayonet frog which has the additional retaining strap which wraps around the grips. Normally the K98 frogs don't have these and I wonder if the original owner was a member of a mounted regiment?

U K ~ according to Skennertons Britishicon & Commonwealth Bayonet book there were only 10,000 Vickers made, they only went into production very late war around I think either 1917 or 1918 the K-98 Frog is a 1943 TEXLED Litzmannstadt I cannot truly remember what I paid for the set but it was a pawn shop buy I had to take the 1888 as a deal the 1903 was off flea bay about 5 years ago both of the latter blades the scabbard hunt goes on.

Hooked ~ As for the S F that is the dearest piece there as I got caught up in the moment of a bidding war lost the plot and probably paid to much for it but going on the prices they are now I have just about broken even. Are these still standard issue to the SAS or Commandos or has a replacement been manufactured.
How weird is that Geoff thinking about the same thing and cleaning/oiling our bayonet collection thanks for sharing your collection the hookies made me green with envy.......
    Thanks for the replies guys

I did have some peace and quiet around the place, so whipped them out......... Some are going to a collector one is for sure, its been the pride of the pack a Hookie marked to the 4th Battalion Manchester Regiment, but its going to a very good home ........ the money goes straight to the L42 fund (all donations welcome)

The 1888 with the frog I was planning to keep but the same guy wants the frog.... don't how much buff frogs go for but I guess I will get a good price, I have to take a few unit marked ones with me, 1907, 1888 and 1903's as he was interested.....

I will be keeping the Vickers (like you say they are the rarest) and Mole 1907's and one of the hookie's, a few 1903's and 1888's and some of the modern stuff, also one of the owen SMG only because they were used with the sniper rifle.

Its a vicious circle collecting military items and Firearms as I picked up a few another No36 Mils Bomb plus a No5 at the War and Peace really nice condition, just need a No23 and ........ were does it stop ?

I nearly bought a Sykes Fairbairn knife some time back but I really didn't know anything about them although the price was or seemed reasonable..... it would of been a gamble.
