    Cast hammer?

Neighbor just bought an Underwood mix-master with an unmarked blued barrel, set in a parkerized gas piston housing (topic for another post) and it had a parkerized, unmarked Type II hammer that appears to have a faint casting line on it. Did the military evert use cast hammers? I know they used cast front sights and recoil plates for replacement parts after the war.

    Thanks in advance.

Post WWII they did experiment with cast parts. I believe Springfield was doing that. IIRC, they did make hammers.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

    IMR,
Do you mean a Type III hammer?

I can recall seeing Cast Recoilplates, Triggers, Front Sights and Type III Hammers.

Don't know this seller but happened upon his auction today. Look at pic #3, I believe these are Cast Type III Hammers.

    Note the Casting Holes.
    Anything like your neighbors find?

The Chinese, or somebody, recently made some cast type 2 hammers.

I know George at Riverbank Armory had Chinese cast dog leg hammers about 7 or 8 years ago. Looked like they used dirty motor oil to soak them in, then some smeared old cosmolene.

I'd have to check. It is a non-dogleg. It was in an old DCM carbine that was re-barreled years ago with a turned down 1903A3 barrel, swedged into the gas block.

War Baby! page 386, bottom left column. Quality Hardware; Hammer, Type B, variation 2 (cast). Used on approximately 4,000 late production carbines. The next page also mentions a late production cast trigger for QH. There was also a CC news letter a while back with these parts mentioned and illustrated. Both items are marked Q.A.
