M37 drain plug replacement

Hello,

My 1953 M37 needs a replacement transfercase drain plug.
The crankcase plug is a strange torxlike plug so I'm assuming that the transfercase is the same type.
Has anyone ever seen one of these or know where to get them?

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the old drain plug or is it missing? In the past when I have needed an unusual drain or filler plug for an old or obsolete vehicle I have made them myself. This is a much easier exercise if you have the old plug to measure and examine the thread type etc.

Most drain plugs in axle and transfers case use are a square drive 3/8" or 1/2" socket with National Pipe thread and should be easy to source. Using the links Jim provided, I pulled the following part number from the diagram:

U 7374954 Plug, Pipe, 3/4 (2 Needed)



If that information is correct, it should be an easy fix, a serviceable (but not period correct) plug could nearly be sourced from your local Home Deport in the plumbing aisle.

When I was rebuilding MGB GT V8 gearboxes and rear axles several years ago (to help pay off my mortgage) I used to machine my own up from brass hex bar. They were usually a BSP taper as I recall. Then I used to drill into the inner end and press fit into it a short round stubby magnet. Readily available here. You'd be surprised how much steel shavings and other clag would stick to the magnets after a year or so's use. There's probably some EU regulation about selling and buying magnets and using them in gearboxes now..........

Some of the very strong magnets that are available now could theoretically wipe the data from your Credit cards and similar type cards if you get them close to the magnets. Some years ago I had to use some of these strong magnets for an item at work that I was making and I had to lock my wallet in my locker because I didn't wish to have the bother of having to get replacement cards.
