    Rebuilt Carbine question

My neighbor, as I mentioned before, bought a used, mixmaster Carbine on an Underwood receiver. The barrel is blued, and appears to be swedged into a parkerized gas block. There is no skirt on the rear of the barrel like a GI, but it seems to function fine. There are no markings at all on the barrel. He thought it was a new Crierion barrel that CMPicon sells, but I believed they are parked and have a short barrel skirt. I suspect that it is a 1960s or 70s re-barrel using a 1903 Springfield barrel, turned down, like the National Ordnance carbines of old. Has anyone else seen a USGI mixmaster with a replaced barrel like this? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I will try to get some pictures next time I see him.

The only one that I've personally handled was an RB (Rowen & Becker) receiver with the Springfield barrel. I think it was a 2 groove, but don't remember for certain. Seems to me like one of those barrels would would go right on any GI receiver since they were made using the rear half of a demilled GI carbine barrel. - Bob

I haven't seen it yet, but I asked him, and he thought it was a 2 groove. That (and the fact that it is blued , but swedged in a GI parkerized gas block) is one of the tings that made me think of National Ordnance and the 1903 barrels.
