    Need Help with M1903

I am looking at a 1903 with a Serial number in the 1035xxx with a peep sight (Redfield I think)

It has a sporterized stock with the cleaning kit base plate.

Were there any Air Service, NRA, or Target/Competition varients in this serial number range?

    Thanks for helping the newb

Other than the Springfield 1903 and Serial Number, there were no markings on the barrel or stock that I could find.

    Guessing it's a Mark 1?

I did not know about the Pederson cut out until awhile ago.

I've exhausted my internet search capabilities, so I'm a bit lost.

The stock looks like an NRA but I'm leery of the lack of other details.

Does it have the side cutout for the Mark 1? Got any pics of it or can you get some?
    Regards, Jim

The rifle was manufactured right in the middle of U.S. participation in WWI, so all were service rifles. Possibly could be a Mark I, but that should be stamped on the receiver.

    No Mark I stamped
No star on the barrel that I could identify. Fair amount of wear/rust
No arsenal mark or flaming bomb stamps
    No Pederson cut out
No identifiable stamps of any kind on the sport stock unless they were sanded away.
    Stock has pins
When I get the pics downloaded I will post.

According to Campbell, the first MK1 was serial no.1034502, made in Dec 1918. So, this is apparently just a standard service rifle, as the NRA Sporters didn't start until 1922 and no NM's made during the war.

Thank you... I went with a Remington 700 in 30-06 to have something for deer season winding down.

The history and variants are fascinating, so I will keep looking for Springfield 1903

At least when I was going thru my Mosin fetish, it was only costing me about $120 a pop.

    I'm guessing a 1940's rebuild.

    Is that a Hatcher hole?

If nothing special, at least it has been a learning experience.[COLOR="black"]
