My belated birthday, early X-mas gift, and retirement investment arrived yesterday. Paid more than I wanted, but inflation will hopefully catch up one day.
It is all matching and appears to have been through the shop prior to being returned to stores and then surplused. Three forend wood repairs including a real challenge (in my opinion) by the receiver. Two repairs on the butt. Forend, butt and mag all have been renumbered. Back of the bolt has been ground and renumbered after refinish, 19T marked along with the "0" bolt head.
I already had a '71 converted example in the collection but I could not pass on the rarer original receiver, and it did have a converted THC which I did not have either.(would of been perfect if it was a '72 or '73 dated conversion, but....) Missing most of the chest kit, half I had in the spares bin, so the quest for a sling and that damn lens brush holder begins again.
Original owner must of contacted Simon as he knew it was from batch 27, one of 18 from 9/71. Anyone have a guess on how many ROFM's made it through conversion? (Simon next time you are going through the list can you make a quick count, thanks!)
At the end, the girls together, top to bottom,
'45 BSA D70 with converted '46 AKS
'41 ROFM D71 with converted THC
'44 BSA D71 with converted CTS
'44 BSA D74 with converted '45 AKSInformation
