    M1D 7/8" Scope mount......Real or Repro?

    Dear Milsurp Friends,

Please advise if the scope mount in the photos is Real USGI or reproduction. Was purchased through mail, without benefit of first viewing, from a vintage military arms vendor with a good reputation and advertised as original USGI. I see one or two items.....the center of the knob and the bored through threaded hole closest to the knob.....being indicative of repro. It came in cosmolene wraped in typical thick, green paper. After vigorous cleaning, it is still stained.

    Thank you. Jason

The hole bored thought is the easy give away that it is a fake .

That was one of the things I was looking at. But do repros come in cosmolene and wrapped in the paper? Can you point out other features, as well, please?

    yes repro no doubt

the weld in the center of the attachment wheel is one identifier of repro

I believe the end of the hinge pin should be rounded also

Finally as TR63 indicated the additional hole is also a key indicator of a reproduction

    Repros

First of all, it doesn't look to me like Cosmo which is dark brown... it looks like grease. Second, not only do some repro parts come in paper, they come in labeled packets with contractor information printed on them

I would not dismiss a mount with a weld.
The mount I received from CMPicon when they sold all the M1D accessories was welded at the thumb wheel with a screw that was a different thread.

CMPicon Forum has a sticky with photos comparing a repo mount to an original.

    Excellent reference.

Can't insert a link as my work computer will not let me go to the CMP site.

As for the parkerizing, I think that's an acid stain, not even parkerizing.
