    Trying to identify a scope?

    Morning all,

My Father in Law dug out an old scope he used in conjunction with a micro meter set up back in the late 1960's for target shooting, any ideas as to its origin?

He is from a post war austerity generation that adapted and adopted whatever rifles and kit could be found for target work from the mid 1950's onward, generally Milsurp in origin, his old rough shooting jacket was a 1942 dated Denison smock for instance ... before I sold it for him for £££! a few years back.

it appears to be 4x15 or 20 and focused on infinity with a reasonably fine cross hair reticle, approx 21cm (8") in length with a 1" diameter tube.

Was this scope slaved and bore sighted to launcher/medium calibre gun of some kind, or was it civilian in origin?

    Any ideas team Milsurps??

It looks like a sight for perhaps tank or arty...direct line of sight type? The regular sights have a retical pattern with lead lines.
    Regards, Jim

I'd tend to go along with BAR. There's no FoV worth speaking of and the lack of external adjustments means that it has to be fitted into an adjustable cradle. So as a co-ax sight alongside another larger calibre gun. A bit like the No42/53 although that was for the coaxial BESA

Actually it says Hiensolt, so I'm wrong.

Well, Hensoldt's "Duralyt" and similar monikers referred to the scope tube being made of "duraluminum" or whatever its Germanicon equivalent name would be IIRC, and this tube is plainly steel.

That and the mis-spelling of the name spells fake to me. Perhaps Japaneseicon, or perhaps European.

I see they stuck on a "K2" a la Weaver for good measure; appeal to the American market you see...

Well that's taken us off in an unexpected direction, the mystery deepens...

Not much mystery IMO except that it's an uncommon little unit. I would bet it's a Japaneseicon effort from the late 50s or early 60s.

Presumably it came with adjustable mounts originally, since there are no internal adjustments.

Might have even been mounted on a piece of surveying or targeting equipment.

You could actually clarify things by telling the flock exactly what it does say on the ocular bell-end
