Unknown weapon mount/tripod/bipod part - Can you help?

    Hi all

This has been recovered recently from a WW2 era Britishicon army dump where everything that comes out of the ground is weapon related in some way. I've been searching for hours to try and track this part down. I think it maybe part of a weapon vehicle mount, or possibly tripod/bipod part but my searches have drawn a blank.

It is a heavy piece, 10 inches long. Top clamp has a hefty hand turner, and the bottom piece is obviously designed to allow lateral movement on whatever it fits in to.

    Do you recognise it?

I think that you've got it upside down. I would say that it''s definitely a part from a Bren mount of some sort by the shape of the lower hole that sits between the rear Bren mount lugs on the butt. If you roughly measure the width I'm sure it will be about that width too. But I could be wrong because.............. The thumbwheel part looks like it's come from an M1917 type tripod. Could it be a Bren adaptor for a 1917 tripod?

I agree with Peter, Looks Bren like but I suspect it fits the front mounting rather than the butt. Reason being that it doesn't look adjustable and the arc needed to swing the gun left to right would have to be large and need a lot of space, something vehicles don't have. The thumb wheel is also nothing like I have on any of my Tripods including the 1917.

    Could be Motley Mount?

That looks like it Brit Plumber, except for the thumb wheel. Maybe earlier/later design though.

    Many thanks!

That patent is a good example of what's stupid about patents. How on earth did he EVER gat a patent for something like that. We were always taught that you can't patent a) the bleedin obvious, b) the laws of physics and c) metallurgy utilising the naturally occurring

    Peter,
Absolutely right there. Invented many things in the past, and soon learnt, Intellectual Property Rights have more impact in court. The only person who gains in Patents are the Lawyers, because it is bloody expensive!! If its something that is clearly brand new and imaginative and beyond anyone else having beaten you to the post, then yes Patent it, but otherwise, simply place the original material in a self addressed envelope, photos, drawings etc of your design, sign all stick down parts and Record Delivery it back to yourself. Only to be opened in court by the Judge, when the other person thinks he thought off it first!!
Worked for me and held to be legal.
