Looks like something went through his M1helmet...lucky man. That was all he got.

I wonder if his injury is a burst right ear drum which I would imagine is quite common on the battle field. What would be battlefield first aid for a burst ear drum? Would it be to apply a dressing over the affected ear?
I didn't see the damage to the helmet so you could be right, Jim.
