    No 1 Mk 3 question

    Judging from the color of the furniture on this 1953 FTR, presumably it's stocked in beech. Is that accurate?

    From this distance, butt looks like birch, maybe maple or even Juglans regia ("European walnut") sapwood. We don't usually see anything resembling wavy grain (fiddleback) in beech. Impossible to say much more without sharp closeups of grain to permit evaluating medullary ray structure.

    Here's an example of why color is often a very poor way to identify wood -

    Without looking closely at the grain I'd say yes - pretty definately. Or birch.
