    'Retro' AR upper

Found this at the gun show today...have been wanting to do another 'retro' AR, figured this was a good starting point. Dont know if this is a Colt upper though. Looks like one, has a 'LM' code on the carrying handle. Also a larger than normal forward assist button. No markings that I can see on the barrel, which sports a permanently attached 'moderator'. Thoughts?

    Anzac15--

I would change out the forward assist button to one of the tear drop style buttons. Some purists would have a problem with your upper, the moderator is too long, the bayonet lug should be removed and the slip ring should be a delta ring. But if it works for you go with it. That upper will make a nice carbine.

The large forward assist is a civilian job I think. LM = LAR / Martin Marietta, so not a Colt made forging. That shouldn't matter though, they used them. The mod is just a tube for length but I think you know that. You can't remove it without registering it as an SBR can you? Yes, it's a good candidate for a build I think, what's the twist? Also you have roll pins instead of taper pins at the front...

Correct, oversized 'moderator' for lenghth...because as you know, only those SBR rifles are the dangerous ones.
I do not know the twist...no marking that I can see, but would be willing to bet 1/12.

Show us the end result, it'll look better once you have it all done. I like the bayonet lug myself...

Very nice indeed, looks like a really nice AR Carbine. What colour did you go for, looks like Olive Drab?

    Israeli sling?

Believe it is a medics bag strap...I saw several photos of carbines in VN with 'slings' similar to this. It actually carries well.
