    Mk III gas tubes

    Gents,

    I'm trying to find a couple MkIII straight thread gas tubes (specifically BE9294). Anyone have any idea where some of these might be found?

    I can see where you are coming from but the response would seem to indicate that they're not readily available. However, if you use a good Mk1 type together with a good tight fitting bipod sleeve you shouldn't have a problem. Mind you, if you slog it to death while retreating from Franceicon towards Dunkirk you'll be in trouble.

    They are out there. I posted a WTB on a few different boards a few years back and I got one NIW from Englandicon. I also received replies from people with used ones that were pulled from demills so they might still be out there.

    Peter, I am not sure what you are taking about, is it the gas cylinder that is pinned to the end of the receiver ? Is it not a slip on and held on by the tapered cross pin ? Alterego located ?

    To be honest TR, I wasn't really sure what he was on about either. So looking at the part number and the Mk3, I just assumed that he wanted the later type that was in effect a Mk1 type that threaded into the gun BUT only has one set of gas vent holes as opposed to a second set under the bipod sleeve. This BE9294 type is also used on the L4 guns.

    Double dovetail....... In that case you should have a Mk1 double row of holes type gas cylinder. But if, like me, your concern is for reliablility as opposed to concours competitions, then go for the Mk3 type.

    We had that dilemma when restoring an Enfield 1940 D/D Bren here several years ago. Since the receiver was being refinished to post 1944 MoD specifications, we went with the Mk.3 gas cylinder instead of the Mk.1 which is what would be done by real Army workshops. The gun runs so flawlessly and with minimal fouling compared to the Mk.1 type gas cylinder that we never looked back.
