    Could LMR barrel be original?

Son #2 recieved a 5.93 mil service grade Springfield Garandicon from the CMPicon last year. It is by far the nicest Garand out of the four we have received. The metal is in very nice condition, pale green parkerizing. Very good condition, relatively fat, DOD cartouched stock, RRAD stamp on the buttstock. The barrel is a LMR, 12 / 53, and the question is, could this barrel be original to the rifle, and could someone tell the month / year of manufacture of the reciever? I don't know too much about post war Garands, so any info will be appreciated.
    Thanks.......

    A 5.93 SA comes in 11-55.

I know LMR barrels can be original on HRA and IHC Garands, don't think they can on SA's.

But so what, you have an LMR!

More than likely....RRAD installed that barrel when they rebuilt it. However anything is possible.

Step one - Get a good SA 11-55 range barrel.

Step two - swap it on for the LMR.

Step three - sell the LMR for a pot of gold.

No, not original to the receiver, I have a 5308xxx SA with the same LMR 12/53 barrel date. It's one of my favorite shooters. Good score! Oh, and 0311Shooter doesn't have a bad idea either! IHC owners with rifles in the 4.7mil and 4.8mil range would be interested, if they need one, of course!

Many LMR barrels were used as replacements. It would be most unlikely that such a barrel would be used by SA for original production. As the stock is marked RRAD, it is more likely that the LMR barrel was installed as part of a arsenal rebuild. JMHO. Sincerely. BruceV

All 4.7's would be HRA's. There are no 4.8's, there were no serial numbers authorized for production in the 4.8 million serial number range.

Be careful using the word "all." "Most" would be more appropriate.

In this case "all" seems very appropriate, at least to me. I never heard of any M1icon, other than H&R, containing a 4.7 serial number. Correct me if I am wrong. As far as the original post, as others have said, the barrel is not original to the rifle. And as someone else said, "so what". I too would just keep it as is. What would be the point of changing the barrel. You would then have to switch the stock because there would no longer be an explaination for the RRAD rebuild stamp. It took me 25 years to get around to swapping out the SA hammer that was in the substantialy correct IHC I got from DCM in 1984.
