Top 100 BBC "Star's" yearly earnings revealed

I presume these approximate average rates of ~>£250K are "salaries" not contracted remuneration

I appreciate some BBC products like news APP, but how does BBC measure worth?

Is a programming value somehow influenced by the media AD market in the 'information' age?

You didn't post a link to the salaries and I am a bit curious as we watch a few BBC shows.

I would expect that they are paid based on the ratings of their show and their importance in the show. This would in turn influence the commercial value of the programming. That's how it is in the US anyway for the most part. Only PBS is government subsidized, all others depend on ad revenues for the majority of their income.

Sometimes the value of the actor exceeds the ability of the network to continue production. Recently happened here with a Tim Allen program. Ratings were very good, but contract payments increased with each year the program was renewed. Plus the show unfortunately didn't fit in with the networks politics so it was cancelled.

Actors also get revenue for each time their show is played in syndication, royalties. There are dead people making more money than some living actors because of this.

Other programs start with unknown actors, like Game of Thrones, and then their popularity skyrockets and payments to the actors increase as needed to keep them. Big Bang Theory being another good example of this. Some of these actors make a quarter million to a million dollars an episode. The three top bills in that show actually voluntarily gave up $100,000 each to increase the pay for the other actors on the show. They now make $900,000 per episode.
