    Anyone need a new butt?

I noticed this on eBay, sadly a little more than I would wish to pay:

The Butt is post war as opposed to WW2 as stated by the seller. I suspect it's for the L4 but it's pretty academic seeing as they are identical.

A bit pedantic here BP, but it is for a Mk3 gun so it could be for a wartime Mk3 gun. Or do you mean that it was MADE post-war? £200............ he's 'avin an laugh inn'i. Later we had a sling loop mounted on the top of the butt plate to save further graunching and destruction of the butts.

Yeah just meant that as it had an NSN it was much later than WW2.

I did see a similar "brand new" butt for a MK3 Bren, complete with all the metalwork, priced at a much more reasonable £30 a couple of years ago at Malvern Militaria show. Admittedly, it didn't still have it's cardboard box but at a £160 discount to the example now for sale on eBay, I now wish that I had purchased it.

Coo! Got two of them sitting in a draw waiting to go on my kiwi A4 and 1945 MK 3 when I finally get round to having them cosmetically restored, with pistol grips and carrying handles to match. And I do believe that there's a butt plate with the suspension ring welded on to go with the A4 kindly given me by a certain member of this forum along with a quart of suncronite.

Mad prices, I'm glad I stocked up when they were still under 20 quid a pop.

The vendor can ask whatever price that he likes for the Bren butt. At the close of play, it is actually worth what someone is willing to pay for it, like anything else.
