Italian Tipo 2 conversion of M1 Garand to 7.62Nato

I have a question.......the Tipo 2 conversions had their receivers stamped with "7,62 - 2" onto the receiver flat, just behind the rear sight. Also, they had "Ca; .30 M1" scrolled over or scrubbed out. Does any one here have any idea just HOW they did that?

Was the new caliber numbers stamped into the hardened receiver with a steel number punch and a hammer or was it annealed first?

Was a file or a grinder used to scrub the "Cal .30 M1" line out?

I am building a Tipo 2 and want my receiver to be like the originals.

I hear you...that would have to be a fine grinder to take that steel off. Fine width wheel and a jig. That way you don't cut too deep and they're all the same. Stamping would also be a pig...

Why do you need to deface a US GI receiver. It's not a BM59 that requires machining to convert. That US receiver is getting rare. Maybe look for a CMP "C" that has some pitting. But still a US receiver does not need to be defaced to function as a Tipo/2. 7.62mm/2 marking on the op rod is the Identifier.
