Gerneral inquiry on the No.4T Pad/Bracket setup

Just curious if anyone knows why the front thumb screw on the bracket wasn't just attached through the center of the front pad like the rear one is?
    Was it for recoil absorption?
Seems like it would have been a more solid, less labour intensive setup?

Simple answer. The bracket was to be interchangeable between the Bren and the rifle - a one size fits all. So the rifle was adapted to take the Bren mount configuration. That's the same reason why the deflection drum remained on the left instead of the far simpler idea of putting it on the right where it'd be the most handy

    Next question.......

    Next question!

Was the bracket and scope actually adopted into service on the Bren?

Approved, yes. Used in any meaningful way, no! Used in ANY way outside the trials, definitely not!
