Winchester type5 trigger housing question?

I am looking for one for my 575xxxx sn. Carbine. I found one but the top picture is not clear. I asked the seller for a better picture. In the current picture the magazine wall looks smooth rather than having two groves in it. It does have the oil hole on left side. If it is smooth would that make it a rework with the hole drilled in it? I Craig riesch book he states that the oil hole has been added during updating? But from all I have seen the type 5 should have the two groves

WRA trigger housings have the 'Smooth' rear magwall. The rear magwall would be the 'Wide' type. Only difference between a WRA Type III or type V is the Drilled oil/lube hole found on the Type V's.

Just look to see if the right side rear magwall hasn't been cut back. See that the inner left side magwall doesn't have the indents for the M2 spring and that the front right lug hasn't been counterbored.... Also look for extra drilling/machining below where the trigger will hang. If it has these features - it's a M2 (Type VI) housing... Or has been modified from a earlier one.

charlie P thanks again. Could not find anywhere that the winchester housings were smooth on the trigger housing. I looked and the mag well does not have the scut back it goes end to end. Will look for other markings you described. It does have the oil/lube hole.

your the man and thanks for the info. Not trying to pass mine off as Original Just want to try and get winchester parts on the major components.

I going to keep the underwood barrel it is in good shape and Dated 44 which matches my receiver date. And I really don't want to change a barrel. So after the trigger housing It will be mostly Winchester Except small parts.

My latest Carbine has a Type III Winchester TH and just this morning I had my Riesch 6th ed. open to Page 74. See the (NOTE) near the bottom of that page. Somehow, I had always skimmed over and missed this information before. - Bob

Winchester bought a lot of Underwood parts (mostly receivers?) after Underwood stopped production, any chance that they bought some barrels as well?

I have the 7th edition and see no note. Looked further and note on pg 76. Thanks USGI.

Winchester only used Winchester made barrels. Even though they had bought out all the left over receivers that Underwood had their barrel making was always able to keep up with their production.
