Got these Sunday any idea what 6.5 they are for also the possible year of manufacture they remain un-opened. Thanks in advance.

Looks like 6.5 x 55 Swedish ammo to me!

I agree, we had boxes like that on issue for the Carl Gustav sub cal insert.

Swedish "prickskytte" in English means "sharpshooting", so we can safely assume it is Swedish match ammunition.

From 1941 onwards Sweden, which remained neutral during World War II, adopted skarp patron m/94 prickskytte m/41 (live cartridge m/94 sniping m/41) ammunition loaded with a 9.1 grams (140 gr) spitzer bullet (D-projectile) fired at a muzzle velocity of 800 m/s (2,625 ft/s) with 2,912 J (2,148 ft·lbf) muzzle energy from a 739 mm (29.1 in) long barrel.[12] Besides a pointed nose the m/41 D-projectile also had a boat tail. Originally developed for the m/41 sniper rifle, this new cartridge replaced the m/94 ammunition loaded with the M/94 projectile for general use

So it appears that it is military.

Sorry, I'm not that familiar with Swedish ammunition but it does have the universal plain box appearance of most military ammo.

Yep; 5.5 x 55 Swede.

For all the years I had anything to do with the 84mm Carl Gustav, I NEVER fired, or even saw a single round of that rifle ammo, despite having the proper "sub-cal" devices on issue and being inspected by armourers twice a year.

When I mentioned to one of our fearless leaders that it seemed I had more 6.5 Swede ammo at home than the entire defence forces admitted to owning, I got a few dark looks. Good thing I didn't mention the white-tipped tracer rounds in my cartridge collection. Don't ask; I got out of serious cartridge collecting many years ago.

The really stupid thing is that when the Swedes changed calibres and adopted a variant of the old Heckle and Jeckle G-3, they ALSO built a NEW 7.62 x 51 adapter for the 84mm gun.

It would seem that, in these parts, nobody was too serious about training on these beasts.

Yes, we used the 6.5 gallery and tracer rounds to excess...and when the 7.62 came out we used those too. Our 6.5 tracers were red tipped and our 7.62 ammo had a white tip, reduced powder charge and a half of the base was painted black too. The gallery 6.5 had a small copper cup for a bullet. They'd often stick in the surface of the target frames or back stops.

I only ever saw the sub-cals used once. I have an abiding memory of the ammunition because it had a long "silver" bullet and the cartrige designation was printed on the side of each cartridge case. Other than that one occasion, our sub-cal adapters also just sat in the armoury gathering dust.
