M1C rifles were built using new Springfield receivers.

M1D rifles were built using used receivers. So, they can be Springfield, Winchester, IHC or even HRA receivers.

For some reason, I have the idea that the M1Ds were made before IHC and HRA rifles were produced.

FWIW; AFAIK; IMHO; YMMV; yadda, yadda, yadda.

Strange world we live in. The current CMPicon auction WRA-D with no accessories is over 4 grand, yet this mint CMP WRA-D got no bids at $3200 and it's complete. Go figure.

I have a friend, an older retired Col., who has a Lottery CMPicon D that in a Winchester. He has kept in in the wrap as an investment. I should point out I've never seen the gun but I have no reason to doubt him.

I received a Winchester M1D from the CMPicon in 1997. At that time someone wrote an article about the numbers. As I recall, about 10% of the M1D's released from the CMP at that time were Winchester. I think there were reports of only a few HRA's, IHC's and post war Springfields. The rest were all WWII Springfields.

    Here is a picture.
