No.4 7.62 CONV - ballpark value US?

I'm helping someone out researching a 1969 No.4 7.62 CONV. The rifle is in very good condition, all complete. Any idea of a ballpark value currently in the US? Will try and post a photo later.

Three years ago I sold Canadian conversion for $1200.

If you type "Joe Salter" into the search box, you will find a thread called "Joe Salter does it again.." (Sorry, I don't know how to link past threads). There is quite a bit of information in this thread regarding the XL39. He was asking $5900 for his.

I casually searched a couple of past auction catalogs from the major US auctioneers (poulins, james Julia, rock island), and found prices all over the map. A couple of Envoys sold for 2,700 to 3,200. A few L39's went for around $1200 to $1800 dollars. There was one Faz no4 with PF serial number converted to 7.62 by unknown persons. Fitted with a PH5C sight and real enfield 7.62 mag. That sold for $900.

In the past 2 years, I have also seen two DCRA conversions sell for approximately $2000.

All US prices.

Thanks most kindly. I thought the prices would be all over the place. I have the opportunity to pick the rifle up for $1300 (whoops, did a typo), so I'd better jump at it. Should I be worried about the stock splice shown in the photo? Looks like it was done at the time of manufacture, but what do I know?

I wouldn't worry about the stock repair. It looks like an arsenal repair. At the price it's wearing, that is easily the sum of the parts, so I think it would be a steal. Enjoy!

Is the Envoy style forend serial numbered to the rifle? I thought that all of the original 1969 production No.4 7.62 CONV rifles came from the RSAF stocked identically to the L39A1 but could be wrong. It was the commercial sales forerunner of the Envoy. Many also wound up in the hands of the military shooting clubs.

Not sure, Brian, still trying to find out if the bolt matches! I did find this on a prior thread here " All 7.62mm Conv rifles had Factory numbered 7.62mm Magazines and fitted with Target Sights. 1969 batch were dispatched to the Army Rifle Association on the 11/04/1969.". Pity these rifles are not considered curio and relics.

Can someone confirm that the serial number should be on the bolt handle? Does anyone have a photo of the serial number on the bolt handle of this type of rifle? This is what was just emailed to me:

The bolt head is stamped "T19" and is a "0" size, for what it is worth.
