Snider-Enfield

Yeah, it's not a Lee Enfield, but do you really care?
Shot twelve out of it Sunday---five drawn Bertram and seven turned NDFS cases.
Bullet was a Minie coated X2 with "Moly Mist" over 75 grains of Goex FFg.
The Moly coated the bore and kept the fouling loose, I suppose---no grease cookies, card wads or other voo-doo used and still I got dinner-plate accuracy, offhand at 100 yards.
(There's a ten page thread on "accuracy" of the Snider over at British Militaria and the conclusion seems to be---it's hopeless---so I am more than satisfied.)
Mick, I'm 11 rounds ahead of you now.

Krinko, Is the old girl a new addition to your safe? Those blackpowder single shot hammer guns have always appealed to me. They have a nice profile but at the same time a menacing or businesslike appearance. I had a "trapdoor" Springfield, model 1886 if I remember correctly. Wish I still had it!! Nowdays blackpowder cartridge is atop a wave of popularity. Would you consider hunting with the Snider-Enfield???

I'd hunt cows with it---beef tastes good and cows are slow.

The best thing about firing the Snider is this: According to my own rule, I may not buy another BP cartridge rifle until I have fired all the ones I own already...and the Snider was the last to be fired.
So if the Werndl is at Tulsa April 4---heigh-ho!---another unsuitable musket conversion to play with.

Hell yeah, I'd hunt cows too if it would'nt get me jail time!!! LOL! I have however laid down a goodly amount of whitetails with my 45/70 1902 Remington rolling block. Used Lyman 505 gr. hp @ 1350 fps. Inside 100 yds. I'm sure it will go thru a deer end to end. Eyes are going downhill and have'nt used it in about 10 years.
