Type 99. what do I have and what is the value?

I just got a Type 99 and what to know about it and its value.

Type 99 series 2 made at Najoya

Perfect MUM

Perfect aircraft sights and monopod

All screw stakes intact and not touched

Chrome lined barrel and chrome faced bolt.

Original leather sling

Serial number of bayo lug matches receiver.

Overall condition nice for its age. The rife shows use.

ALL BOLT parts are the same serial number BUT not the same as the receiver.

Here is the strange part. The dust cover is matching to the Bolt and bolt parts.

So the bolt and all its parts including the dust cover are matched to themselves but not to the receiver.

Questions:

1. I can understand having a mismatched bolt assy. Its very common, but how the heck did the matching dust cover get preserved that matches the bolt?

2. Being a series 2, does that increase the value much?

3. Whats the value of this setup as described?

The rifle shoots very well and is a beautiful piece of history. I paid $500

The Japanese with early rifles used an assembly number for parts that matched itself but not the serial number of the rifle. I believe they phased this practice out before production of 99's started but it could be one possibility.

Rifles worth is about what you paid, $500. Still not a massive premium on Japanese rifles although this is slowly changing. I would expect the value to rise sharply in the future.

Yeah, they aren't getting any cheaper. I paid about the same for mine, all matching except for bayo, Duffel cut, sanded, intact mum, dust cover, no sling. Im sure some of the guys around here would appreciate photos. That would tell the pros a bit more.

i have 3 of them 1 being a para trooper model. sure are hoping they bring high dollars. i am thinking on culling out alot of my junk down and dirtys
i will post them up, when ever i get to them. also if i remember right one of jap rifles has the crests in tack, hope its the break down para trooper

about 5 years back, at a gun show ,i seen a para trooper jap, and the guy was asking 3500 bucks....i asked why so much...he says there aint one in a 1000 miles...i said.... theres 1 about 10 miles away....mine

$3500 seems pretty high for a paratrooper. Seems the ones I've seen have been in the $1000-$2000 range. Out of my reach so I don't pay too close attention to them.

i agree aragron, way to much moneys to pay for a rifle that is really useless. it will be my luck when i am ready to sell, the market will bottom out and i wont even be able to give them away.

The bolt would have been matched by the rifles serial number , so you have a mis-matched bolt . That really hurts that rifle since it does have all the other parts . No way to know for sure where or why , but the bolt and cover were still together where ever they were picked up , then put on that rifle . Sadly that rifle is worth more as parts than as a complete rifle .
