The second guy with binoculars is looking at the Okinawan Fu Dog (Shisa) the same way I look at my Lab when he decides to fumigate the living room.
I was going to comment on "Where's the M1?" but now I see it at the base of the statue. Looks like a Winchester and the serial number suggests it was manufactured in May of 1943.

Obviously the other group of GI's are down wind of the Fu dog with one asking the other gasping ~ "Did you drop your guts?" to the one behind......................
