Mk1 no5 identification real or fake?

I was passed down a chopped up British 303, supposidly a "jungle carbine" that's has been sporterized unfortunately. It has the right numbers on receiver, metal areas grinded/removed on barrel and receiver. M470,England on the butt stock metal clip, left side. Flash hider has been removed or cutoff. Would it be worth taking it back to original issue standards? Thanks for help guys, just want to know exactly what I have here...

It is a heavily sporterised No5 jungle carbine, but it has been so badly cut about I don't think it would be practicable to resurrect it. If the receiver was intact (still had its rearsight machined recess & axis pin holes) it would be worth a go, but even then barrels are hard to find, as are flash eliminators.

I'd accept it & enjoy it for what it is.

I agree. It was legit at one time but not worth messing with now. For under $500 you can find an original one.

Don't touch it. Just shoot it or scrap it. Buy a correct one. Flash hiders are all hu unavailable, I sold a mint barrel for $250 CDN, wood can cost a fortune...and the receiver has been trashed. Then you get to bead blast and refinish it...

It never was a No1 Mk5. a totally different rifle.
It started life as a No5 Mk1.

We knew that but have found preaching to these guys doesn't work...most don't care...just us. I too expected to see a totally different rifle when I opened this up...

If you really want a flash hider, Gunparts is listing a way aftermarket ported one with no bayonet lug for $38.10.
How long is the barrel? It'd cost a big pile of money to restore that one in any case, but the barrel may be cut up enough that the Gunparts flash hider may not fit either.
Check the headspace before you shoot it.

Well thanks for the info guys, I figured it would cost a fortune to bring it back to life, but was not sure what I had. I may just sell this one and find the real thing, it has no sentimental value just given to me from a family member. What would be a valuable on this since its so chopped up?

Barrel is 17.5 inches to where it meets the receiver. I guess I need a gunsmith to check head space before I fire it?

It's the value of the bolt and magazine. $25 each... The barrel has been cut down.
