Alcan AL-8 powder OK for 30 Carbine???

I came across a 3 pound can of this old powder and cannot find load data for it. Does anyone have load data from an old load book that list's a load for 30 Carbine with this powder. thank you.

The Lyman 44th edition lists 11.0 (eleven) gr AL-8 as a starting load & 13.0 (thirteen) gr as max with a 110 gr jacketed bullet. Since this is old powder & old data, follow all the precautions for developing loads, including determining if the powder is still good & hasn't deteriorated.

The Lyman 45th edition shows a starting load for a 110 gr bullet of 10.5 grs for 1680 fps at 32,000 CUP and 12.0 grs for a max load at 1850 fps with 39,000 CUP. Even the starting load is a compressed load. hth

I also have some of this powder I plan to use in the 9X19. Is there data for that with a 115 gr bullet?

AL-8 is not a suitable powder for use in the 9mm. Case is not large enough for it to work properly. The smallest case listed in my old manuals using AL-8 is the .38 spl. hth

I used it many(plus 30 years)ago in the .357.AL8 was a marvelous powder for that use-dont waste it in the carbine-use it in either the 38 Special or the .357.Will
