Are there any manufacturer's marking on the leather scope covers? Anyone got a good picture of a set of leather scope covers? Similarly how are the leather slings marked?

There are a variety of markings on the leather scope caps used on No.32 scopes. /|\ is the most common mark. Maker’s initials and an Optical Stores Number are sometimes on them. Markings may be stamped into the leather or stamped in ink. I have not come across Canadianicon marked examples yet.

Slings are usually the American M1907. Most of those found on No. (T) rifles are marked with the standard U.S. markings. Maker’s name or initials/ year/ initials of either an inspector as claimed in this web page (link below) or if as per the markings on M1icon Garands of the senior officer responsible for the location where the slings were made. Most of those M1907 slings found on No.4 (T) rifles are dated 1918. Occasionally one will find a WWII period sling with steel claws rather than WWI brass claws. The 1931 No.4 Mk.I (T) that I used to own had remained in Britishicon service until at least 1963 and received a later dated sling, perhaps during its F.T.R. A FEW M1907 slings have British or Canadian issue marks. I have examined several dozen slings on No.4 (T) and I have only found one with a /|\. I found and acquired one with a C with vertical -><- inside (two arrows pointing at each other, vertically inside the C) signifying sold out of Canadian military service. That one is is now on one of my No.4 MkI* (T) Long Branch snipers. I have been told of another Canadian example in another collection.

    Hello,

I have never seen Canadianicon marked scope covers or 1918 slings. I have a couple of scope covers, both produced my Barrow, Hepburn & Gale. See attached pics for a 1941 and a 1944. Also, I have a 1918 sling that was sitting at the bottom of the transit chest when I bought the set back in 1991. Sling is marked 1918, with brass buckles. No broad arrow acceptance stamp, though.

Hello rgg_7. I have an REL CNo32 MkIII that has its lens caps with it. I'm not close to my gunroom just now, but from memory I don't think there are any markings on them. However, my memory has always been bad & isn't improving any with age, so I'll check tomorrow & post again if I turned out to be wrong.

Hi rgg_7. I checked the lens caps on 1-C & the only marking they bear is a straight sided broad arrow on the flat face of the ocular end.

    Hope this helps.
