Have an early 5 digit serial number Winchester M1917, with circled star on left side of receiver. Some time ago found a stock with W stamp on front end of stock, in ok condition, but some sanding and refinishing.
But now also own a Remington M1917 with early Winchester stock. This stock has short scalloped bolt handle recess as mentioned in M1917 book by C.Ferris on page 68, the stock being used on the very early Winchester receivers. Stock has not been refinished, but has a very well done 2 inch crack repair at rear stock buttplate, and fore-end marking has been sanded smooth and replaced with large "1" and smaller "T", along with a deep straight horizontal groove thru the #1.
Which stock would be best for value/history?
