Type 38 carbine

Not new to Milsurps. But first time on Japanese

Bought this type 38 Carbine yesterday on a Auction. Not seen it in live yet.
So pictures are from Auction side.

An Arisaka (any model) are extreme rare for sale in Denmark.

as far I can understand it is from Koishikawa Arsenal and maby early.
Serial 57228 with no "kana" in front.

Dustcover missing

Mum partly ground off

Forring mark on left side but?

Dont know anything about bore condition yet.

looks like nice condition overall.

Can any of you expert tell anything of this rifle (estimated build time?) or other exiting stuff? as well as bad things :-)

Anything will be nice. because It ditn'd know much about Arisaka's

jsne, The stock is refinished BUT the carbines are getting hard to find and I rarely see them around here. I think it is pretty cool and still on my "want" list. Most bores I see on T38 's are dark but you never know. I think some of them had chrome bores. I have a chrome bore T44 carbine barrel which is almost the same as a T38 but some "gunsmith" converted it to .257 Roberts!

Also, Since the stock has already been refinished, you could strip the finish with paint stripper and stain it a nice dark brown color and finish with BLO. All the dings would dissappear and the rifle would look much closer to an original.

The carbine is 1/4 of the way through the first run . It will not have a chrome bore . No t-38 or t-44 carbines did . The only 6.5mm's with a chrome bore were some very late end of production t-38 long rifles .

Stock has been sanded as stated. May have been reblued also but the photo of the barrel end seems to argue against this. Receiver seems awful dark. Agree darkening the stock would improve it's looks considerably.

They are neat little rifles. I have one that came with a dust cover but has a ground mum. Bore is fine.

II did not bought it as a colectible item.
But anyway Ilike to find uot the storry about it.
I go to the auction house to day to have a look of my own
Then I find out if I shoult take it or not.
As I say . Arisaka is werry rare in Denmark

Kind of makes you wonder how it found its way to Denmark. Private sales?

I have no ide. It was on a web auction. Never seen one before in Denmark.

I went to the auction house today to have a look at it. and was surprised with the condition.
Everything is very tight and nice. And bore as new.

yes sanded stock and not matching numbers ( some different assambly numbers)
When i get it home I will take it apart an see how much is mismatching or matching and report back.

I have not bought it as a collectible item but as an historical shooter.
So I am very happy about it.

But I really want to find out about foring markings on the left side of the stock "S.Y.R 49"?

Anybody know about what it is? or where I can find information?

I saw those. It is possible that this rifle was sold to England during WWI. Not sure how it would be marked if that is the case but might explain the non-Japanese letters.

It the mum has three stacked cannon balls stamped on top of it, this is a very good possibility.

Later in the war many were supplied to Russia who also bought Arisakas from Japan.

And from Russia, many found their way to Spain.

I think there will go about 5-6 weeks before I got the
License and get it home.
But I think your right about some kind of europan service
That could at least explaine the cornection
Too Denmark
In meantime I will try to investigate a little more.
