FN help

I could use some help on my FN. I think it's a '49(?), but I know nothing else about it. I'm going to post a dozen photos and see what the experts think. Not sure on the crest...Venezuelan? or caliber. 7.62?
Anything would be a start.

Here's one I prepared earlier Gil .... The Hikem, developed from the Swedish Ag42.

An interesting beast with a passing resemblance to the Fn49.

I owned this example a few years ago now before selling it on, direct gas impingement action, chambered in 7.92mm and beautifully made. It would have been a hard hitting rifle, though you can't but wonder how long it would have remained operational in desert conditions without jamming.

They were funny old things. Hope yours was better than the one I fired at Bisley many years ago as a captured weapon. Could'nt hit a barn door literally. But good enough if you wanted to take a shot a pyramid

It's an interesting rifle and it might have become the UK's first semi automatic rifle.

FN designers ran out the back door of the FN design office as the Germans came in the front door. They escaped to England and set up shop at Enfield, were they continued work on what became the Fn49.

Several prototypes were built and tested at Enfield, showing great promise.

With the war's end, the UK based project ran out of steam and we carried on using the No4 for another 10 years until we finally adopted the Fn49's direct descendent.
