    Before XP-82 flew 12/31/18, I believe the last flight of a P-82 was 10/10/87.

I had an old friend who died in the late 1990's, he had been in the US Air Force for 19 years. He joined right after WW2 and was a pilot in the P-61 night fighter,
his unit was up-graded to the F-82 twin Mustang and based in Japanicon before the Korean War started in 1950. When the Korean War started his unit was ordered to
provide ground support by straffing enemy troops with the F-82's. He was shot down by small arms fire and crash landed in a safe area. He had photos of his F-82
after it was shot down and I remember his F-82 was all black in color

WOW! I've never seen that model of Mustang. It must be a bit strange flying it from sitting on one side.

I saw a black P-82 fly at the Harlingen, Tx CAF airshow in the mid to late 1980s.

So enlighten me, was the second seat for someone to shoot its guns or photograph? Seems almost like a hotchbotch Lightning equivalent with its joined up tail.

The XP-82 prototypes, and production P-82Bs and P-82Es, retained both fully equipped cockpits so that pilots could fly the aircraft from either position, alternating control on long flights, while later night fighter versions kept the cockpit on the left side only, placing the radar operator in the right position.

I suspect the Lightning and the Mosquito where a better option!
