No time to post a picture yet, but I found a good deal yesterday. Went to the OGCA show in Wilmington Ohio. Found an early Inland 5 digit S. N. It's been altered, but still has a lot of original parts. Front sight doesn't appear to have ever been removed. Barrel is dated 7-42. Still has the type 1 barrel band. Looks like the original flat bolt as well. Even the slide is a PI marked type 1. The rear sight has been replaced with a milled adjustable, but has not been staked. Trigger group has been switched with a later SG group and the stock is an M2 type, but for $750, I don't think it was a bad deal. And it is still original finish. A little rough, but what the heck! You don't find early Inlands at that price very often these days.

When I see those I assume the owner bought the Carbine when they were cheap and swapped the sight to an updated one, don't you?

Most likely a swap. But I'm sort of surprised that the other early parts weren't removed and sold separately. The owner could have just about doubled his money. I have to laugh though. Another guy was looking at it and put it down saying, "I'm going to think about it" then walked away. 20 minutes later, he caught up with me and tried to buy it from me! That's what you get when you walk away from a good deal trying to get a better price and you already know that it is worth more than what the original owner asked.

Jim, It is all about timing, and recognizing a good deal and jumping on it. I was at my buddy's local gunshop with the 186 Mini-14, looking to trade it for a newer one that he had just gotten in from an estate. I saw the Quality leaning against the wall in his office, and and saw it was in a FAT77 stock, meaning it was a CMP, not an import. It had just come in that morning. As soon as I picked it up and saw the condition, then checked the ME with an M2 ball, I knew it was a peach. (I later found out the seller had ordered it as a Service Grade from CMP).

I asked what the seller wanted for it, and he said ONLY $750! I stated paperwork right there. I did have to pay the state DROS fee and Private Party transfer fees, but that was OK, Any GI carbine in Nor-Cal goes for $900 and up. Like yours, mine has original barrel and bolt.

I should have mentioned, mine has a ME of just a shade over 1!

Wow Jim that muzzle wear is bad. Just send it to me and I will use it to plant tomato's with. But you did good on your catch and the price is a nice too.

I went to that show in 2012 and joined the club. Great colored newsletters. I think the display show is coming up in May. I found some 30 round type one SEY mags there (6) near new for $60 each, a cool stock drilled for a sniperscope front grip. A few other odds and ends. Great attitude from the venders. You come off the 71 down to Wilmington and there was a nice Mom and Pop buffet place to to eat.

An acquaintance at a show prompted me about some loose parts. I bought a type VI Inland slide, a gorgeous IBM round bolt and an advisor length barrel assembly for $200. I paid that because the barrel is a BI barrel professionally turned down and crowned wearing a type II band marked \ for IBM or Rockola. Swapped the band for a cut down type III and installed the barrel on a new Fulton receiver then added my high figured Walnut stock to complete it. It's schweet.

I've been a life member for years. There are always carbines there and usually a few parts too. But lately, most of the carbines have been prices like precious jewels. Don't know why this one was reasonable, but I bought it anyway! *LOL*. There were quite a few others, but they were much more. I went there looking for a new high grade skeet gun. Found one for much less than I planned on spending so I had enough to buy the carbine as well! Then late in the day, someone walked by with an old 12 ga. Fox SXS who was selling cheap. I bought that too. And I ended up coming home with 3 guns AND several hundred more dollars that I didn't spend! I can't figure that one out???? How did that happen???? Dumb luck I guess...
