1941 Mixmaster duv Kar98k

A relative of mine is looking to sell off his gun collection and is offering me a group of four rifles. Among those, and the one of which I have the least familiarity is this kar98k. This falls outside of my purview of collecting, and thus I would be looking to sell it and recoup the cost of the rest of the group of rifles being offered.

I know wartime kar98k rifles can have some collector value, but this example appears to be in exceptionally poor condition. The metal finish is very worn and has about 0% bluing left and there are some dents on the right side of the receiver ring. The barrel and receiver are matching serial numbers but the bolt, stock, floorplate, barrel band and buttplate are not.

The receiver is marked "duv 41" on the top, "mod 98" on the side. From what I have been able to find "duv" indicates the rifle was made by Berlin-Lübecker Maschinenfabrik, which isn't exactly a common manufacturer. The rifle is import marked by century arms on the end of the barrel.

There is no sling, cleaning rod or bayonet included, and the sight hood may not be original to the rifle because it has much more bluing than the rest of the rifle.

The barrel is also very worn with heavy pitting and little visible rifling in the last 6" or so. The muzzle will readily accept an 8mm Mauser cartridge, bullet first, up to the case neck.

My question is to whether there would be any interest into a rifle such as this? With mismatching serial numbers and little finish left, I don't see it having much collector interest and with poor bore, I don't see it having much value as a shooter either.

I guess that I am looking for two things here, first is there enough interest in this rifle that I should be looking to purchase it and resell it, or should I try and negotiate the rest of the group without this rifle?

Second, If I do purchase it, what would be a ballpark value that I could sell it for?

Its still a nice k98 for a young guy or girl who wants to start collecting. Someone who can not afford the 800 or more on a real nice k98. I would call that a shooter grade rifle 300 to 400. Just in parts alone if i cut it up. Stock 150.00, bolt 100.00, action with barrel 150.00. small parts 100.00. So it may take awhile to sell off parts. But you see what you have. Tag it 500.00 an make a young person happy.

Would fit into my US military collection pretty nice at that price. Sort of a pseudo bring back type item.
I think you’d find a few people wanting a rough rifle at a good price for that reason.

Given the OP's description of the bore, I don't think it could be called "shooter grade".

You would be surprised at the number of rifle I have shot that people brought to me, that I was told barrel was bad. They still shoot military acceptable groups. We are not talking match groups. But battle ready groups. Last 6" can be counter boarded if need be. Have seen an also done alot of that. JMO

Depending on where you are located and who you can show it to, I can see that rifle going for 600+.

Anything that has the nazi birds on it gets snatched up eventually. And bore condition seems to matter less with some highly desireable Milsurps such as german K98s.

And at least it doesn’t appear to be a Russian Capture, so that helps the value.

Well, the rifle is now in my possession, along with a number of others. The K98k barrel is perhaps the worst I have ever seen.

I had a pulled 8mm Mauser bullet (.323") sitting on a shelf nearby, I dropped it in the muzzle and it travelled a full 8-10" before encountering any resistance. Yikes!
