    It occurred to me that the guy on the left is using the tree for cover in case there is a sniper.

    Bayonets were not a serial numbered accountable item like weapons, binoculars, compass etc. Charlie Painter would know if M1icon carbines with
    bayonets were issued in Europe before the end of the war
