The bloke holding the rifle doesn't look too happy. Is that grenade a special model for the Garandicon or just the normal hand thrown type?

Looks like a regular/normal hand grenade in a grenade discharger, Ray

So he should be letting someone else put the thing in the discharger cup with the pin in his left hand, me I would want to do it myself, mind you they are gathered 'round rather close considering what a frag could do despite a delay fuse ya cannot run fast enough just get low and cover your head!

Yet another question, does anyone know if this grenade launcher was used much and how popular was it? I ask because the Britishicon Forces had a similar device for the SLR, it was awkward to use and apparently had very hard recoil and was not at all popular.

Most of the films and photos I have seen of WWII use of the grenade launcher on an M1icon rifle were with M9 Anti-Tank grenades. The M1 (four prong) projection adapters were for the use of Mk 2 fragmentation grenades only ( some enterprising types did use 60 mm mortar rounds with the M1 adapter as super rifle grenades).

That's the regular grenade. Nothing special is going on except I think they have just received the launchers and are learning together. Thus the presence of the company CO.

    It was very often used.

Although in the book, those are extremely heavy by comparison and the recoil would be extremely punishing...

They may be gathered up close but you have to understand these guys have been through lots and this doesn't phase them. Just grenade handling...
