    Scope Mount

This is sacreligious to me, but a friend asked me so I will pose the question here. Is there such a thing as a scope mount for an M1icon Carbine? Have never seen or heard of one and can't imagine putting a scope on one. Thanks!

Yes there are scope mounts for M1 Carbines

Numrich Arms had one that required drilling and tapping a hole on the left side of the receiver and removing the rear sight. It slid into the rear sight dovetail and was locked down with a allen screw and attached to the side of the receiver with a SAE threaded screw. Williams gun sight in Davison Michigan Also makes one. I am sure there are others also. griffith

I believe there are some now that don't require drilling and tapping.

I believe this is one of those styles, and there are probably more.

I have one like Harlan shows. it goes into the dovetail and tightens down with a set screw, then you mount scope rings.

But to me it just takes away from a classic look.

    Jim Long,
I was looking for that type too, but couldn't remember where I saw it. That style would seem better because it wouldn't mess up the dovetail.

    JimF4M1sicon,
I couldn't agree with you more. I'm sure not advocating putting a scope on. He should get an inexpensive modern Ruger or something and mount a scope. At least these newer type mounts don't require drilling and hopefully a later owner will take the stuff off who appreciates the classic lines of an M1icon carbine.

    Why not make your own???

Get one of the metal hanguards, tack weld a 3/16"X 5/8" X 6" piece of CRS, to it.
reblue or park as desired, the drill and tap for a Weaver M366 scope mount.
Did that for mine carbine as the youngest daughter wanted to go deer hunting with me. ( Don't worry i was back-up with a .308Win.)
A 1.5x Kseries Weaver looks nice up there and ejection not impeded.

Or, if he just wants to scope a carbine-type rifle, suggest to him (if he's not 'that' good a friend) that he purchase a Universal carbine. They came pre-drilled and tapped for a scope mount made by Weaver. P/N 08409.
Those mounts are still out there.

The main reason I'd mount a scope is for testing hand load ammo testing to eliminate sighting errors these old eyes I now have... Though once I'm happy with the load, the carbine goes back to original config..I love shooting metallic sights! I take this approach with all my rifles, antiques included, with the philosophy of leaving no permanent modification. jjroths' mount idea is one I've pondered myself .

Yep. A scope buggers the balance though. Why anyone would want a scope on any carbine(an SKS included) is beyond me.
    Spelling and Grammar count!
