The grenade launcher for the T20E2, and its interface with the rifle’s substantial muzzle brake. Note that the launcher blocks the brake’s ports, rendering it ineffective.



The T20E2 rifle, very nearly standardized as the Rifle, Caliber .30, M2. While it did not include open/closed bolt select fire capability, it did add a fully automatic fire mode and magazine compatibility with the M1918 automatic rifle, as well as an effective muzzle brake. The use of two much more significant weapons resulted in the stillbirth of this improved Garand.

Art Tuttle always insisted that the T20 was a better rile than the T44 that became the M14 and could have been developed in half the time at half the cost. He was biased, of course, but he was there at the time. This is he firing the T20E2 on auto at Quabbin Reservoir, Springfield's test area... note three casings in the air and the muzzle is still level. Colorized by me.
