    Hakim experts out there

Can someone explain the tiny, wire spring/clip things that lock the action screws and the compensator on Egyptian Hakim rifles? They appear fragile and I have noticed that they are missing on many examples. Are they just a screw locking device? Any other purpose? How do you take them down? Are you supposed to? Thanks much for advice

I've owned 2 Hakim's and 1 Rashid over the years. Only one of the Hakim's had the screw keepers intact and it took me awhile to find that example. The springs are simply to hold the screws in place like the locking screws on some Mauser 98 rifles. The three common reasons so many are missing the keepers are the following.
    1.They are fragile and break.
    2.They are easily lost.
3.They are a massive pain to reinstall, so most people don't bother.

My recommendation if you have a rifle with intact springs, is to let them be. The risk of losing or damaging them is too great IMHO

Pretty sure my Hakim doesn't have them. Not showing in my photos anyway and not digging it out of the safe to look. Never knew they existed to be honest.

As you suspect, the wires are there to keep the action screws locked in place. The wires are not soft steel, but are tempered to make them stiff. As such, I agree with Accumulator, if you have no reason to remove the action from the stock, I would not remove them, as they do tend to break. Tight action screws on a Hakim are important. If they come loose enough, the bolt will fail to lock the hammer back on the sear.

Thanks to all for the replies. These locking wires do appear to be vital for the proper functioning of the Hakim rifle. All sorts of trouble can arise from loose action screws. I consider their presence to be a good indication that my rifle has not been improperly fooled with. I will follow advice and not attempt to remove them. Good info

The wire retainers are to keep the troops in the field from removing the screws . The Hakim was found in the desert to be very hard to keep sand out of the trigger area the troops tried to blow the sand out . If you find the retainers missing it dose not mean the rifle was tampered with and the rifle was altered and out of specification .
