    Authentication Assistance re: m1903a3

    Hello!

I am considering the purchase of a m1903a3 that is being represented as part of an elder gentleman’s estate.

I am attaching some pictures for your review.

The weapon appears well kept, and in good condition.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks!

    Art Masoero

It is a mixmaster of parts, the bolt sleeve is from a Smith Corona. Probably original barrel on the receiver. It is missing the front sight blade and stack swivel, indicating someone has pulled parts that aren’t normally needing to be pulled for normal maintenance or complete tear down.

Look at the bore condition, bolt face wear, cracks in the stock. And most importantly, look at the receiver around the cut off switch to see if it has removed welds or discoloration of the finish indicating welds. Might be a reclaimed drill rifle if the is evidence of welds.

If everything checks out it would be a 700-750 rifle with the missing parts around here. Not much more if the parts were there. If it was a drill rifle or poor condition parts I wouldn’t consider it unless using for parts and real cheap.
