    L42A1 IWS Brackets

To help alleviate the boredom of lockdown I looked around for a project and decided to try and get some IWS brackets made up.

With the help of Surpmil and Pete Laidlericon I was able to get hold of the original drawings, not perfect, but near enough to work from.

I produced new drawings from them and had a CAD file done producing 3D images and some CNC computer files.

The brackets arrived with me today, in the white but phosphated. They appear to be spot on, they match and line up with an original bracket in every way. I had 10 made.

Just waiting to try one on an L42 on Wednesday (because mine is in storage), then they will be advertised for sale.

It was a fun project which worked out much better than I could have hoped, and flash to bang time was 11 weeks from idea to finished articles.

A.R.M.S STANAG compatible rings to fit IWS mount

And for those of you that are tempted to buy an IWS bracket but think you'll never get any use out of an IWS mount without the IWS Night Sight - think again. You can purchase a set of A.R.M.S. STANAG compatible rings which fit the IWS bracket (STANAG compatible). These are 30mm but you can buy inserts if you want to fit smaller tubed scopes. I used this combination on my L42A1 until the arrival of David Tomkinson's excellent repro SAS trialled brackets.

The originals were a 1" bore IIRC. Is this gentleman making them with 30mm bores then?

Are you talking about the SAS trialls brackets? These are bored 26mm in order to fit the S&B 6x42 scope.

Yes, I was asking you if the replicas you referred to were made with 30mm rings as your post seemed to imply.

The first two mounts have been sent out to test fit on different rifles. First fitting went well.

Once they are tested on other rifles the remaining brackets will be advertised.

I was just the messenger, but glad they worked as well for you as they did for me.
