I remember during the Vietnam War the VC would booby trap bicycles by filling the hollow tubes with explosive and rigging the detonator to the bicycle wheel that after a certain number revolutions, the rider would get a surprise up through the seat.

Thing is...the Japs used them for troop transport lots. They had entire units move on bike. There was a story from the Pacific where a recce unit encountered a Jap unit moving along with bikes and could be heard miles away because they were running on just the rims. The tires had gone and they were on paved roads...the guys just went heads down and the Japaneseicon went right past them.
    Regards, Jim

don't know, no source info, but

The unexpectedly swift and devastating advance of the Japaneseicon troops, using bicycles to invade Malaya and capture Singapore, went down in history under the name of “Bicycle Blitzkrieg

Japanese Style Bicycle Blitzkrieg - We Love Cycling magazine.
