    U.S. Model 1841 rifle-a.k.a. Mississippi rifle.

I originally posted this in the knife and bayonet section of the forum....because it was about a bayonet for this rifle.

But there is also a rifle ....so I decided to also post it here.
    (Sorry to repeat it.)

Whitney Contract, U.S. Model 1841 rifle,... this gun is dated 1848. (Originally .54 caliber, some rifles were later altered to .58 caliber)…this rifle remains in .54 caliber.

This is the bayonet that started this whole thing.

The (Second Type) bayonet and scabbard are the M1855 for the U.S. Model 1841 rifle.

The lower P is the "proved" mark. The upper initials PB are the inspector's initials.

Congrats on having such a fine rifle. It is my favorite black powder rifle of them all. I only got to handle one once but never forgot it.

    Thanks Nate,

A Model 1841 rifle in unissued condition must be a sight to behold, they are truly a handsome firearm.
