Medic a spring tube is a carbine with a tube over the slide spring. In stead of the spring fitting into a recessed hole in the reciver, the tube fits over the spring and sits in a retaining hole at the back of the reciver. Winchester and Rockola used the spring tube set up till mid 43, and Quality Hardware through out production. If you look where the slide retaining pin catches on the right side of the reciver , on a spring tube you will seea small hole drilled in the catch hole and see the tube through the hole. If you look on page 16 of Craig Riesch's book it has a picture that shows the differance between the recivers, and will help explain what I was trying to explain.

It's easy to see in the diagram, but I don't feel I should scan it for copyright problems to show it to A. F. Medic.
Can someone lucky enough to have a spring tube take a photo and show it here? If I had one I'd show the difference.
I didn't know what a spring tube was for quite a while because they are rare to see

Mickey,
What's the deal with your scanner? I can usually fix most computer and office equipment issues. (Send me an email)

Here is a photo of my Winchester with the spring tube before I got it cleaned up. The recoil spring is inside this tube that fits alonside the receiver.

Here's a close up of the right receiver rail detent for the slide. It's drilled all the way thru, and you can see the tube underneath... This is a Rock-Ola, but they all look about the same...
