    1903A3 Interesting Stock Stamps

    Hello,

I recently picked up a Remington 1903A3 serial 4,130,655, barrel dated 11-43 with an original M1907 leather sling. The stock cartouche stamps are very crisp FJA, RA, Springfield cannons. There is also an OG which of research serves me correct is an arsenal stamp. There is however an SS stamp and the base of the butt. I did some research, heard from another forum member and found that it might stand for “serviceable surplus”. Not sure if that is correct though.

Everything else on the rifle seems correct aside from the bolt which I’ve read are not mixed blue and parkerized parts if original.

Any input would be appreciated as I am doing my best to learn. Thanks!

The Ogden Arsenal (OG) stamped rebuilds were among the best condition of the M1903-A3 rifles. Yours is no exception. The parkerized safety lever, housing and striker are somewhat typical. While most of the rifle parts were left untouched during rebuild at OG, the safety/sear engagement was commonly addressed, and hence the refitted and refinished parts.

    That's a beauty. Nice score.

"SS" = Serviceable Sales from the old NRA-DCM early sales. I have one marked "US" for Unserviceable Sales"
