    Anyone ever seen a Mk3/5

Someone posted this in a Mewe group I run. Never seen it before myself. Anyone have any input?

    Never seen,
    Never heard of,
    Someones 'good idea'

A badly looked after, ridden hard and put away wet, covered with rattle-can and a screw and bits from the 'come in handy one day jar' that lives under the work-bench.

Could it be one of the RTI rifles cleaned up ?

(Never say never with an LE)
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

While, I agree with the 'never say never' mantra, that receiver looks like a 5 year old has scrawled that with a nail.......and I would venture that those markings are 99.5% likely to be a bubba job.
Just the thing for putting round holes in square heads.

That was my thinking as well. Feel bad for the guy. His first Enfield and he bought it at auction. I can just imagine what he paid

Looking at the wood to metal fit, wonder what the inside looks like?
    Regards, Jim

There may be a quite decent No4 Mk2 under the Tremclad brush-job and hashed up wood. The scratchings may be Bubba's attempt to redo what he had painted over, or perhaps a POFicon rifle pretending to be a Fazackerly?

Looking at little more closely I see a "5" under the paint, so very likely a Fazackerly.

A "37" is visible just behind the 5/5 scratching too.

My guess, it would possibly be a No4 Mk1/3
Savage rifle FTR'd by Fazakerley in 195x (1952-53)

Begs the question where did he get the number from?

I was assuming a Mk.2 on the basis of that tapered concavity at the front of the bevel/shoulder below the markings: a feature I always took to be unique to Mk.2's, but perhaps I'm mistaken about that?

As for the trigger and crossbolt/screw, it looks to me like a very crude conversion of a standard forend to Mk.2 spec by removing the tie-plate, hacking out a slot for the trigger lug, and slapping the crossbolt/screw in to pull the sides in as per the standard Mk.2 forend

Looks like the work was done with a rasp too!

As for the serial number etc. I suspect it is the same and the rest of the scratchings are the best that Bubba/Gumby could remember or make out through his brush strokes.

Might as well get the paint stripper on it and find out, at least the phosphating underneath may be good enough to reuse.

The receiver contour is clearly Fazakerley, not Savage - so the possibilities are Fazakerley or Pakistan Ord Factory (POFicon) completion of a Faz forging or body.

On the wrist you can see Brit 1950s inspectors stamps so I would say it is a 1950s Faz No4Mk2
