carrying handle was adopted late in WW2 but never seen in photos, even early Korean War BAR's are without handle.
My uncle Jack was on an LST and one of my dad's friends was in Infantry on Okinawa. So many questions now with no possibility of answers...

One of my great uncles was WIA on Okinawa, serving with the Army's 96ID. He was originally in a "whiz-kid" type of Military Intelligence unit at the University of Wisconsin, being trained as a codebreaker and the like. However, about the time they reached California for debarkation, they were "converted" to an Infantry battalion. Sadly, they suffered horrible casualties, especially on Okinawa. I think less than 25% survived the war. Uncle Bill passed away in 2000.
