Here’s a neat NS that I traded into recently. A 1919 vintage .45 New Service that is a documented RNWMP purchase. The rub on it is that it has been very nicely altered to .45acp. One of my grail guns even if it is not original. I like a NS.

I have altered .45 Colts, Webley and Smiths in my collection, some with shaved cylinders, some rebated for .45 Colt [even one rebated for .45 Schofield of all things]. The cylinder on this is very odd in that it looks correct to the rest of the gun which was shipped as a .45colt. There is an ‘H’ on the rear of the cylinder so the rear of the cylinder has not been shaved. It will not chamber .45colt but will chamber and fire single 45acp and 45auto rim ammo. It’s a little tight for .45acp in a full moon clip. There is a 1917 ejector star on it as it looks messed with. If any material came off the cylinder it came from the front. It’s got zero endshake and 100% lockup on all chambers. I initially thought the bbl was wrong and it was a .455 but now I’m thinking the cylinder is incorrect. The rebuilder started with a .455 cylinder. What was wrong with the 45colt cylinder I have no idea. There is no evidence of a reblue to me. Shoots great.

I have seen some (incorrectly) converted S&W 2nd models which had the recoil shield thinned. This removes the headspacing step (allows more cartridges to drag) and thins the firing pin bushing.

Could it be an m.1917 cylinder dropped in?

I have swapped .455 and .45LC cylinders with no issues, i guess I will pull my m.1917 cylinder and give it a try.

It’s a .450 solid frame Metropolitan Police. A neat Webley. Has the cute manacled hands logo on the left side. Here’s two more, my MkIV and a MkVI both with .455 cylinders.

Here's a little bulldog that came to me from a friend years ago. .38 S&W and has a set of four notches, said to have belonged to a "Real bad boy" and they thought I should have it...? Yes, yours is a very neat revolver.
