    M44 Stock Repair

I recently acquired an all matching1945 M44 that appears to have received the post-war Russianicon refurbishment (red shellac post-war stock, dark black metal finish). The metal is in excellent condition but the stock has an interesting feature. Along with a multitude of arsenal stamps, the toe of the stock was replaced with a large dovetailed section. I was wondering if that was a normal repair for the Russians? Thanks!

Holy moly!! I learned more in 10 minutes of reading that first article than in hours of other internet research. That is an incredible amount of information. I have a 1930 91/30 and a 1936 91/30 that came to me with stocks that were definitely correct for their year but were painted or had incorrect finishes. I stripped off the paint and refinished both with RLO. Looks like I need to get them out and redo them correctly! Thanks again!
